Online piano lessons are available for students of all ages, including beginners although younger beginners may need a parent sat with them.
The format and structure are the same as in-person lessons, with adjustments made for the online setting where needed.
Lessons are taught live via video, and students are guided through the material clearly and at a steady pace.
What Is Needed
To take online lessons, students need:
- A piano or full-size keyboard
- A stable internet connection
- A phone, tablet, or computer positioned to show hands on the keyboard
- A quiet space without distractions
Further details or setup advice can be discussed before lessons begin.
Lesson Content
The content of online lessons is the same as in-person lessons. Students learn pieces, improve reading skills, work on hand coordination, and develop musical understanding.
For students preparing for exams, all required elements are covered. More on this can be found on the Exam Preparation page. Theory support is also available — see Music Theory.
How It Works
Lessons are arranged in advance and take place at a regular time each week. Notes, feedback, and any materials used during the lesson can be sent by email if required.
Students are expected to practise between lessons. See the Practice Guide for guidance on how much time should be set aside.
Who Online Lessons Suit
Online lessons are suitable for:
- Students who live outside Bristol
- Students with a reliable instrument and setup at home
- Older children, teenagers, and adults who can work independently
For very young beginners, in-person lessons may be more suitable, but online lessons can still be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
